Mitralba is a form name proposed by Bergonzoni in a "Beautiful Cowries" publication in 2014. It was applied to Taiwanese Trawler collected ketyana with white dorsums without dorsal spotting. I believe exact location data is not known nor was a holotype provided. We have now done considerable searching of the area west of Shark Bay and can see that shells that fit this description occur as variants in both the lutea and type ketyana populations west of Dirk Hartog and Dorre Islands respectively. While I personally do not accept it as a valid area form, I do consider it a recognizable variant within the ketyana population .
This shell was collected from a geodia sponge in 78 metres of water west of Dorre Island off Shark Bay in June 2021. It has a very soft fold on it's labial side. It's siphons are perfect and it if free from basal nacre stress lines that are observed in most ketyana. Fine+++/Gem-
