Note | Exceptionally ornate example of this rare South Seas cone. Heavy shell with fantastic symmetrical and fine reticulated tenting, strong brown and dark brown coloration on a china white body whorl canvas. The specimen displays a perfect protoconch and spire. The graceful natural lip is thick, including the aperture notch. Collected on fine muddy sand at 25-30 meters at night with Scuba by Paul Kanner in Taioha'e Bay, Nuku Hiva, Marquesas in 2000. It has a deep growth disruption area on the dorsal body whorl and fish bite defect on lateral body whorl wall opposite the aperture. Grade: F++. |
