Note | The specimen features a fusoid body whorl with exceptionally large varices for this species. More importantly, the chestnut-brown/brown transverse banding on this particular specimen is extraordinary and a highly coveted characteristic. The shell displays a worn protoconch and minor wear on the varice edges. The specimen also exhibits a perfect siphonal canal, spire and body whorl with a slight body fold at the varix/body whorl interface. The rock shell was collected by Scuba diver Paul Kanner on rocks at 18 meters off the west end of San Nicolas Island, California in 3/1997. Grade: F+++. |
