Item | # 0003378714 |
Family | Cypraeidae |
Name | Zoila ketyana - novaesuperba , (L. Raybaudi, 1978) |
Size | 44.2 mm |
Locality | Bernier Island, WA |
Note | On our current collecting campaign off Shark Bay we found this guy munching on a geodia sponge in 88 metres of water northwest of Bernier Island. Cute little superba like shell with a densely patterned dark dorsum and deeply grooved base and crenulated margins. Unfortunately the shell has had a close encounter with a bald chin groper resulting a hole in the shells dorsum. Subsequently the animal has filled the hole with nacre but while the roof repair is practical it leaves a little to be desired from an aesthetic point of view. This is indicated by a green arrow in the photos. The shell has intact siphons. Fine. |
