Umbilia armeniaca andreyi - End of Range !!! , Lorenz & Beals, 2013
Size
68.7 mm
Locality
Lancelin, WA
Note
In 2019 we found a limited number of andreyi west of Lancelin which is approximately 100km north of Perth and is as far north up the west coast that we have found andreyi. They differ from specimens we find in the Augusta area where we see two distinct colour forms. I believe that these mid-west coast shells are pure andreyi whereas the Augusta shells are a hybrid population with a mixing of west coast and a south coast populations I have taken the liberty of referring to the south coast population as "verawestralis". This specimen is a crabbed shell that we collected from 205 metres of water west of Lancelin in May 2019. It has some nacre loss but presents nicely and only a limited number of these end of range shells have been collected. Fine+
