Item | # 0003382633 |
Family | Cypraeidae |
Name | Umbilia armeniaca - Gem Ripper !!!! , (Verco, 1912) |
Size | 92.6 mm |
Locality | Great Australian Bight |
Note | Warm ginger orange armeniaca with peach cream base taken by a flat head fishing trawler from 130 metres of water in the Great Australian Bight. Maliated dorsum with very distinct and well defined mantle lines. This is clearly seen on the lateral photos that are available on request.
In the past armeniaca have been collected in large numbers but this is no longer the case and few now make it ashore. The vast majority of specimens have significant defects both natural and from the trawl fishing gear.
Thus specimen is a very rare gem and a very pretty shell to boot. Extracted from our personal collection.
