THE "COQUILLE SAINT JACQUES" IN PURPLE. Here we have an unusual specimen in which the normally white shell is almost completely reddish. There is a magnificent pattern on the top: intricate yet simple and of great beauty. This makes the species one of the varieties called "maculata". The quality is good, as there are some classic chips from the dredging, yet this specimen is in much better condition than 99% of the pieces that come to the surface. The chance of collecting a piece like the one presented here is close to zero. For advanced shell collectors and connoisseurs.
France. Brittany. Bay of St. Brieuc. Dredged by fishermen from Paimpol. 30-40 m. 2018.
