Zoila marginata consueta - ULTRA BLACK BEAUTY , Biraghi, 1993
Size
67.17 mm
Locality
Carnac Island, Fremantle, WA
Note
WOW! Here is one of the BLACKEST marginata we have collected for some time! A VERY large shell at way over 67mm and combined with the colour this shell has it all! A super dark dorsum with a large area of BLACK on the collumellar side, a small window of lighter brown on the middle of the dorsum before becoming black once more on the marginal side. Along the grey margins is hints of a BLUE HALO which is extremely rare in the marginata complex. Super calloused shell showing its age and a slightly twisted/rostrate base complete this INCREDIBLE shell. F++/F+++ condition with a very small wedge crease on the dorsum and a barely visible chip on the marginal side of the posterior canal. There is also a very small area on the darkest part of the dorsum with some light algae but it is very difficult to see. Taken by diver from the sponge covered wall of a small limestone cavern at 13m. South of Carnac Island, W.A. April 2024 *White marks are from camera reflection. Please ask about additional images*
