Size | 80 mm |
Locality | Puerto Viejo, Atacama, Chile |
Note | One nice specimen of the very rare bivalve species Solen gaudichaudi Chenu, 1843. This is a very rare species, very difficult to obtain, and it is the only Solenidae clam found in Chile. Apparently, this species is very rare even in its habitat, restricted to subtidal waters in sandy areas at only two estuaries in northern and central Chile. This particular specimen has some damage to the border of the shell as can seen in the images, but it preserves its periostracum and the two teeth in the hinge which distinguish this species from similar razor clams as Ensis macha or Ensis loboi in Chile. This specimen was washed ashore after a tidal surge and it is in good condition for the species, as their shells are usually very eroded even in alive specimens. This is your opportunity to obtain a very rare and very difficult to get species from the southeastern Pacific at a low price. |
