Note | Superb example of a hard to find endemic California murex. The specimen shows six prominent and strongly reflected ochre/brown varices with a eggshell white body hue.
The shell displays a perfect aperture lip and siphonal canal. An impressive specimen with a moderately large fusoid body whorl, intricate fimbriate varices and upturned spines. Collected by Scuba diver Paul Kanner off the Horseshoe Kelp proximal to Long Beach Harbor, California at 20-24 meters on rocks in the mid-90's. The specimen shows some erosion of the protoconch. Grade: F+++/GEM. |
