| Note | Lovely albinistic specimen with broad foliaceous wings, moderate weight and exceptional appearance. Amazing condition for a murex shell from this location on the California west coast. The shell exhibits sculptured varices showing remarkable terminal fluting on the varix edges.. The shell has an intact spire, perfect anterior siphonal canal and aperture lip. The specimen exhibits a negligible pit on the protoconch tip and little if any abrasion/erosion on the older varices edges. Collected by Scuba diver Julian K. Lee at 14/15 meters on hard reef off Santa Rosa Island, California in 2018. Grade: GEM minus. |
