Item | # 0003429919 |
Family | Fissurellidae |
Name | Fissurella peruviana , Lamarck, 1822 |
Size | 34 mm |
Locality | Caldera, northern Chile |
Note | One nice specimen of Fissurella peruviana, the smallest Fissurella species found in Chile. This is a rather uncommon species and it is very distinctive as it has a small foramen and a very arched and concave shell, which distinguishes it from all the other large Fissurella species found in the area. This particular specimen is in its natural condition, being found washed ashore among rocks. It has a very nice interior of shell and the border with only tiny nicks. The dorsum of the shell is covered with brown algae, which can be cleaned further.
A low price for an interesting species. |
