Note | Brightly colored and rare South Seas cone that displays the desirable mottled crimson/brick red pattern, interrupted by white dotted/tented banding. The large specimen displays excellent nacre gloss, axial ribbing and heavy weight for it's size. The specimen was tracked and collected by Scuba diver Paul Kanner on sand bottom at 25 meters on the east side of Collette Bay, Nuka Hiva, Marquesas Islands, French Polynesia in 1/ 2013. The specimen was found buried in sand under a rock along with a similar sized Conus bullatus. The shell shows a deep growth fold on the labral dorsal, a mini-nick on the posterior of the thick natural lip and a self-repaired area on the anterior lip/notch/aperture area. Grade: F+/F++. |
