Item | # 0003449911 | Family | Cassidae | Name | Cassis madagascariensis spinella - OUTSTANDING , Clench, 1944 |
Size | 304 mm |
Locality | Celestún, Yucatan, Mexico |
Note | An all around amazing specimen, first it has an extremely thick parietal shield and lip, unlike any others I have ever seen. The ventrum is very very wide, giving it an extremely attractive look. The vibrant orange color of the ventrum is just stunning. The siphonal canal is flawless, something that is very rare in this species, as the canals are usually badly chipped. The parietal shield is in perfect condition, and the lip is almost perfect, with only one minor chip in the lower lip area, shown in the pictures.
The dorsum is overall decent. It does have a few natural attachments that can be cleaned out, and what seems like small sponge marks on some areas, though these are quite small and hard to notice.
I can confidently say that this is one of the prettiest specimens of this species we’ve acquired recently.
Collected alive this year by local fishermen via scuba diving at around 20m deep, many miles offshore. |
