Bractechlamys oweni - SPECIAL COLOR , De Gregorio, 1884
Size
35.1 mm
Locality
Philippines
Note
F+++. A RATHER LARGE OWENI WITH MAGNIFICENT MARKINGS. This specimen was a little difficult to identify and we initially thought it was an unusual vexillum. But the many raised ribs characterize this mussel. The color of oweni is very unusual, as the reds and yellows are conspicuous by their absence. Instead, they are snow-white, bordered by almost black lines arranged in triangles on 4 horizontal lines. Such triangular patterns in shells are called "tents". Better than average: a unique coloration combined with a good size and perfect condition. A great addition to any shell collection.
Philippines. Olango Island. 25-40 m. 2018.
