F+++. HIGHLY SELECTED AND VERY LARGE. The Bayerotrochus are a genus of large thin-shelled PLEUROTOMARIIDAE. The most common species is the Teramachii, but there is also the lesser known western part from Australia. In South Africa there is the “africanus”, in India the “indicus”, in New Caledonia the “boucheti” and so on. There are even more. All are sought after and sometimes the teramachii like this specimen is very beautiful. All Bayerotrochus from the China Sea are becoming increasingly rare due to restrictive fishing methods.
East China Sea. Trawled. 300 m. 2013.
