Family | Muricidae |
Name | Chicoreus brevifrons , Lamarck 1822 |
Size | 109.0 mm, w/o |
Locality | St. George Key, British Honduras |
Note | Large, heavy and broadly fusiform specimen from the Caribbean Sea. The varix spines are wonderfully spread and the spiral sculpture shows major/minor cords and threads. The specimen has a perfect apex, spire, aperture lip and siphonal canal. The shell does present with a young leading edge (outer varix/aperture). Captured at low tide/shallow water clinging on Mangroove roots off Saint George Key, British Honduras circa 2002. The shell shows some erosion of the siphonal fasciole (common in the species). Grade: GEM minus. |
