Item | # 0003461303 |
Family | Cypraeidae |
Name | Umbilia oriettae - STANDOUT , Lorenz & Massiglia 2005 |
Size | 79.7 mm |
Locality | Moreton Bay, QLD, Australia |
Note | Dramatic lateral wall spotting, dark extremity blotching and substantial body inflation characterize this now rare Umbilia. The oriettae displays strong rostration, dense columellar teeth and an almost china-white dorsal primary hue. This is a species no longer collected and a standout shell in any cowrie collection. The unique specimen was captured by prawn trawlers in deep water off Moreton Bay, southeast Queensland, Australia circa 2010. The shell has a self-healing inside the channel chip on the columellar anterior extremity and mild growth folds on the dorsum as seen in images. Grade: F++. |
