| Note | Extraordinary, larger and "fat boy" example of the "gibba" arabica form of this lovely species. The shell exhibits calloused, strongly tuberculated and flared porcelain-like margins as if on steroids with intense black/brown lateral wall and marginal spotting. The balanced heavenly pattern is layered with a hint of subtle banding over a neutral dorsum background primary color. The shell has an amazing weight/size ratio, perfect extremities and brilliant glossy nacre. Hard to find this league of gibba anywhere. The shell was collected by sea gipsy divers at 4-6 meters on a local reef off south Phuket Island, Thailand in 1/2001. The specimen has no visually notable flaws, but only insignificant subnacre blemishes seen under scrutiny. Grade: GEM minus. |
