Item | # 0003461344 |
Family | Cypraeidae |
Name | Umbilia hesitata hesitata - BIG BLOKE , Iredale 1916 |
Size | 108.7 mm |
Locality | Victoria, Australia |
Note | Remarkably large, robust and distinctive light patterned umbilia from colder water. The specimen displays interesting dorsal light, well-balanced spotting and maculae patterning complemented by an excellent nacre glow. The lateral wall spotting and rostration is moderate. The shell demonstrates excellent inflated anatomical form. The light subtle patterns are reminiscent of a transitional specimen between the typical hesitata and verging on the howelli subspecies. A giant shell among the many available specimens. The Umbila was trawled southeast of Lakes Entrance, Victoria, Australia at 240 meters in the mid-1990's. The shell has a typical collection of silt stains in the aperture and between teeth as seen in the ventral image. Grade: F+++. |
