Note | Large and solid specimen with an intact hinge ligament with excellent crenulated margins and super-wide marginal blood red internal color band. The specimen beams with intense bright red colored spatulate spines, a orange umbo and gradations of pink/nude hues on the concentric ornaments. Valve halves are movable and the ligament present. The shell was collected by Scuba diver Paul Kanner scuba at 10-30 meters either attached to rock/rubble or dead shell substrate off Isla Carmen, Loreto, Baja California Sur, Mexico in 1992. All interstitial and needle-like spines are intact. The specimen shows an excellent distribution of spines, with several spathate spines showing tip separations and a denuded attachment area on the left valve.
