NoteMany years ago there where quite a lot of crabbed irvinae available to collectors. Nearly all were second grade dead shells and were taken in commercial rock lobster pots. These shell have not been available for some time as our Fisheries Department enforced legislation which forbids lobster fishermen retaining shells as by-catch. Now irvinae is rarely collected. Over the years we have collected a number of crabbed shells and have collected perhaps six live specimens. This specimen is a crabbed specimen collected by ROV from 195 metres of water west of Leeman in August 2024. Dead Collected.
