Item | # 0003463176 | Family | Cypraeidae | Name | Zoila rosselli - Big Flared Brute !!! , Cotton, 1948 |
Size | 54.1 mm |
Locality | Bernier Island, WA |
Note | Off the western side of Bernier Island rosselli are very large, heavy and flared. They are highly priced and hard to obtain. This dead collected shell was found laying on sand among sponges in May 2024. It was collected from 78 metres of water west of the southern end of Bernier Island. It has significant nacre blister on its sides and base and it's posterior siphon has been broken off. It is very heavy and flared and if its siphon was intact, it would have been pushing the magic 60mm mark. Poor quality specimen but still a representative of one of the rarest and prized rosselli forms. |
