Item | # 0003467321 | Family | Cypraeidae | Name | Zoila ketyana hypermarginata - GNARLY , Raybaudi 1993 |
Size | 47.4 mm |
Locality | Bernier Island, Carnarvon, WA |
Note | Remarkably wide/calloused specimen with an exceptional and striking base pattern/color and a thick sparkling/glistening nacre. This newly collected shell is true to its name, demonstrating a high weight/size ratio, gnarly corrugation of the thick, super-flared/calloused margins and profound rounded convexity of the base. The dorsum is devoid of spotting and reveals a stunning base with pitch black maculae/botching graced by coffee/brown highlighting. The radiant base pattern is buried in a deep veil of rich dark orange. This is a killer specimen, in spite of the slight anterior ramp imperfection. Harvested by Scuba diver while feeding on a large purple Geodia sponge at 40 meters on a low limestone reef off Bernier Island, Carnarvon, Western Australia in 4/2023. The specimen displays one minor shallow transverse crease on the anterior labral dorsum ramp as seen in the images and another almost undetectable crease on the contralateral posterior side. Grade: F+++/GEM. |
