Item | # 0003471323 |
Family | Volutidae |
Name | Volutaconus bednalli - Incredible Specimen , Brazier 1878 |
Size | 81 mm |
Locality | Bonaparte Gulf NW Australia |
Note | This incredible unique specimen was trawled of the remote NW Coast of Australia a few years ago. A truly amazing specimen. Dead taken an in dead condition none the less a captivating shell . I assume it is bednalli although it reminds me of the famous ryoskei volute from the same area highlighted in Bary Wilson’s book AMS. It may well be something new . Morphologically it is like bednalli but the pattern is as the photos shows very special. The spire and protoconch are complete the lip is chattered along the length of it and there is evidence of some tiny worm holes along the lip, side. A special specimen. |
