Item | # 0003472197 |
Family | Ranellidae |
Name | Priene scabrum - Nice, selected , (P. P. King, 1832) |
Size | 48 mm |
Locality | Caldera, northern Chile |
Note | A nice and selected specimen of Priene scabrum, collected washed ashore fresh dead (in excellent condition for the species, with a shiny interior of aperture and parietal callus). This species is the only representative of the genus Priene, a genus endemic to the southeastern Pacific. This is the only Ranellidae found in shallow waters in northern Chile. The shell of this species is usually in very bad condition, with broken protoconch and eroded first whorls. They also have a thick but dehiscent brown hairy periostracum, which hiddens the very nice spiral and axial sculpture in this species. This is a selected specimen without its periostracum. This is your opportunity to have an interesting species from the southeastern Pacific at a low price. |
