Note | One very nice specimen of the very rare Fissurella bridgesi, one of the large species of Fissurella endemic to the southeastern Pacific. This species lives in the subtidal in very specific places, and it is found in very low numbers. This is, together with F. pulchra, the rarest Fissurella species found in Chile and PerĂº. Large Fissurella species are edible (and very tasty), and so are caught by fishermen, collected with hooks and often damaged. This particular specimen has a nice thick shell, with a very nice natural dorsum with some erosion near the foramen done by the Scurria snail living on the dorsum (which left two marks). It has an almost perfect beveled border with no damages except a tiny nick (as can be seen in the images). As large Fissurella are commercially exploited in the area they are nowadays more uncommon, and this particular species is very rare. This is an opportunity to obtain a rare and difficult-to-get species for a low initial price. |
