Item | # 0003505873 | Family | Muricidae | Name | Concholepas concholepas - Very Nice, Selected , (Bruguière, 1789) |
Size | 88 mm |
Locality | Caldera, northern Chile |
Note | One very nice specimen of Concholepas concholepas. This is the largest muricid species found in Chile, and one of the largest gastropods found in northern Chile. They are heavily extracted and their populations are diminishing, as it is an edible species with a large muscle. Usually their shells are very encrusted with encrusting calcareous algae and cirripedian communities, among many other epibionts. This specimen is particulary nice, as it is very clean and has only small white encrustations (of the encrusting polychaete Romanchella), and it has very nice frills and sculpture. The lip is perfect, with no nicks or chips, and overall is a very nice specimen, albeit in the smaller size for the species. This is your opportunity to have a very nice specimen for the species, and an interesting natural history item. A very low initial price for a very nice specimen of Concholepas concholepas. |
