Family | Mytilidae |
Name | Leiosolenus peruvianus - Uncommon, selected , (d’Orbigny, 1846) |
Size | 51.4 mm |
Locality | Caldera, northern Chile |
Note | One very nice specimen of the boring mytilid Leiosolenus peruvianus. This species is seldom found, as it only lives inside soft rocks. This specimen is in excellent condition, with both valves with no damages and retaining part of its periostracum. It was extracted from inside a rock at low tide. A low initial price for an interesting bivalve from the southern seas. |
