Item | # 0003514746 |
Family | Strombidae |
Name | Arrhoges occidentalis - Very Rare, Interesting , (H. Beck, 1836) |
Size | 54 mm |
Locality | Off Newfoundland, Canada |
Note | One interesting specimen of the very rare Arrhoges occidentalis (Beck, 1836) trawled alive in 200 m off Newfoundland Island, Canada. This species is the only extant representative species relative to Aporrhais found in America. This species is seldom found in the market and it is very hard to obtain. This specimen is in rather nice condition for the species with a shiny interior of the shell and shiny parietal callus (as it was collected alive), and preserving part of its periostracum. The outer part of the lip has obvious damage but not detrimental of the beauty of the specimen. A low initial price for an interesting and hard to get species |
