Cribrarula cumingii cumingii , G. B. Sowerby II, 1832
Size
20.9 mm
Locality
French Polynesia
Note
GEM. ALMOST VINTAGE: WELL SIZED AND PROPERLY NAMED. It is very nice to have a cowry named after the 19th century King of Collectors Hugh Cuming, the hero of Peter Dance and myself and many other collectors I presume. Most cumingii come only small to very small in size, but this shell fits over 20 mm. It is from the Meyer collection. Its a beauty with stabilized colors. Extremely rare juwel today.
French Polynesia. Tahiti. South of Papeete. Under coral slabs in 25 meters. Ex. collection D. & M. Meyer. October 1994.
