| Note | NOTE: Time permits only a small offering this month, so I have selected eight masterpieces from the JES Collection for this sale, each of which represents the very best I have had for the species in over fifty years. ------------- CYPRAEA FULTONI AMORIMI: The LAST and LARGEST amorimi of the JES Collection. As the advanced Cypraeidae collector will know, the majority of amorimi, of ANY size, are of varying degrees of lesser quality, upon account of their particular habitat. Few exhibit the fortunate combination of large size; rich colour; superb pattern; and high quality. The current exceptional specimen embodies every one of these parameters. Exceedingly few fultoni over 80 mm of this quality are known. Ultra-rich colour. Spectacular, well-formed dorsal pattern, in a design of the highest aesthetic merit. UNPOLISHED dorsum – extremely important to the connoisseur – exhibiting the finely granular surface which, in conjunction with its extreme weight and solidity, delivers such a rewarding tactile experience. For anyone who has not experienced the weight and massive size of an 80+ millimetre fultoni ‘in the hand’, the sensation comes as a revelation. Extremely few, negligible typical minor natural marks to ventrum – always present in this deep-water, bottom-dwelling species. Only collected during the 1990s, and now obtainable only from the choicest old collections – and almost never like this. An ultra-rare ‘museum piece’ of conchology for the highly advanced Cypraeidae specialist.
