| Note | Large, solid and hefty specimen with a great pattern complemented by moderate/rich nacre gloss. The superb pattern is the classic mahogany/brown net pattern painted over a creme/antique white body whorl. The shell is exceptionally elongate, has a balanced symmetrical form and achieves an impressive size/weight ratio (155g). The flawless spire is prominently high, accentuated by a rounded and perfect apex. The lip is macro-thick with no chips. The volute presents with a perfect siphonal notch and strong columellar plaits. The large bednalli was trawled by a Thailand vessel at 25-30 meters in sand off the Arafura Sea, south of Indonesia in 4/2000. The shell exhibits some negligible/unremarkable growth folds on the dorsal body whorl. Grade: GEM minus. |
