Item | # 0003551170 |
Family | Conidae |
Name | Conus canonicus - INTENSE TENTED PATTERN , Hwass 1792 |
Size | 64.1 mm, w/o |
Locality | Nuku Hiva, Marquesas |
Note | Great coloring, amazing pattern and brilliant body whorl gloss on this superior specimen. The pattern displays three distinct bands tightly knit over an extreme milky way profusion of micro/macro tents saturating the body whorl. The specimen demonstrates a moderate weight, perfect natural lip, spire and protoconch. The bulbous shell was taken at 15 meters by Scuba diver Paul Kanner on a night dive perched in a small rock crevice off Mappa Rock, Taiohae Bay, Nuku Hiva, Marquesas in 11/2003. Original data slip from Paul included. The shell shows a glazed over body whorl subnacre disruption hidden in the intense tented pattern on the posterior mid-dorsal body whorl. Grade: F++/F+++. |
