| Note | Occasionally ultra rusty stercoraria specimens are are found mixed in with typically pigmented populations. This West African specimen is a special one, with a thick nacre gloss, heavy weight/size ratio and a low/wide morphological profile (87g) . This outstanding hyper-glazed specimen exhibits a notable and rich/striking/memorable red/orange veil over the entire dorsum and margins. Ultra thick nacre, heavy weight and in spite of the imperfections, is a rare and wonderful deeply rust colored example of the species. Collected by free-diver at 2-3 meters off Ngaparou, Senegal, West Africa circa 1990s. The specimen is highly glazed "reef warrior,' with a heavily nacred shallow mid-dorsal concavity from reef encounters and several glazed and self-repaired areas on both extremities. There is also is evident a series of various dorsal/ventral subnacre blemishes. Grade: F+/F++. |
