Item | # 0003551395 |
Family | Cypraeidae |
Name | Zoila friendii friendii - GONDOLA , Gray J.E. 1831 |
Size | 85.0 mm |
Locality | Carnac island, Australia |
Note | Elongate, slightly inflated specimen with distinctive super dark black spotted pattern on the dorsum draped over a blue/brown/shale white ground/primary hue. The Zolia shows pitch black lateral margins that accentuate the classic spotting and pitch black base. A beautiful moderate sized specimen with a thick glossy nacre. The friendii has a prefect dorsum, radical "gondola" rostrated extremities and an amazing glossy base. This is a phenomenal shell visually and in hand. Removed by Scuba diver Thomas Daly at 14 meters while nestled in a red paddle sponge on the wall off a large limestone boulder northwest of Carnac island, Australia in 2/2014. Original data slip from Tom included. The shell has a inner channel micro-nick on the poster labral extremity. Grade: F+++/GEM . |
