Item | # 0003571859 |
Family | Buccinidae |
Name | Aeneator castillai - Giant, WRS , J. H. McLean & Andrade, 1982 |
Size | 87.2 mm, w/o |
Locality | Off Valparaiso, Central Chile |
Note | This is the largest Aeneator castillai that I have obtained ever. Unfortunately it is eroded as can be seen in the photos but the shell is heavy and it was live-collected so it retains its original operculum. This species is rather rare, as from about 100 Aeneator loisae one can find one or two Aeneator castillai.
The original description for this species indicates 78 mm as the largest dimension for this species; this specimen is 10 mm larger than that.
I am putting a low initial price for this WRS shell. |
