Note | One very nice and large specimen of Chiton barnesi, a rare small species of shallow water chiton from northern Chile. This species is hard to obtain as it is very endemic, being found in only 3 latitudinal degrees of coast. They are naturally scarce in their habitat, and they are of the same color as the rocks where they live. This specimen was prepared flat, with the soft parts dry and it is in very good condition for the species. Please note that the blue matter in the ventral view is paper from where it was attached to fix it flat. A rare and hard-to-obtain species endemic from Chile. |
