Family | Terebridae |
Name | Hastula hotumatuai - New species , Terryn & Gori, 2022 |
Size | 17.8 mm |
Locality | Rapa Nui (Easter Island) |
Note | One nice specimen of the recently described Hastula hotumatuai Terryn & Gori, 2022. This particular specimen was collected by local people at Easter Island, who drilled a hole in the last whorl (in the same manner as in the holotype). These species are used for local handicrafts and, in fact, are collected in a single beach at Easter Island. An interesting new species from a very remote locality, in fact its radula and operculum have not been described yet! Please, note that this specimen has a manmade hole in the last whorl and a broken lip, as can be seen in the images, nonetheless it is a very rare species, recently described. |
