Note
F+++. A GHOST SPECIES: SPONDYLUS VIRGINEUS! Here we have the best of the best for you: A shell which is virtually a copy of the Spondylus virgineus holotype from the British Museum and figured in detail by Lamprell on his plate 40 figs. D to G. This shell matches perfectly the holotype of virgineus, including the base which is identical almost to figure F and the hollow spines on all their length as in figure G. The virgineus holotype is also from the Philippines and in the British Museum of Natural History. On top of this shell is attached what we think a young Spondylus ocellatus with a more reddish than usually brownish coloration. This is ultra rare and prestigious.
