NoteOver the past ten years we have spent effort looking for deep water extensions of superba. It is generally thought that the inshore dive accessed population is extinct probably due to a hot water event. No-one has found a specimen since the the mid 1990'ties. At first our search was not fruitful but a couple of years ago we ran into a new population of ketyana in 85 metres of water west south west of Cape Cuvier and north west of Bernier Island. This population is south of the dived shells and a considerable distance offshore. They are sparsely distributed and rare and I am not sure we will revisit the area. If forced to classify them as one of the existing ketyana forms, superba was the best fit. Their basal colour and crenulation is indistinguishable from superba but they are a little smaller and their dorsal spotting is a little finer and more distinct in most specimens. I decided to use the name "novasuberba" in referring to them. The motivation in this is to bring to collectors attention we had found this new form but that they were not from the original superba population and we considered them a little different. A second motivation was to protect the mystic and value of the original dive collected population. This specimen is so close to a true superba that the only reason I know it is not from the type location is that I collected it. This specimen was found crawling on sand among sparse sessile growth in 82 metres of water north west of Bernier Island in May 2024.  It has a very crenulated base and diffuse dorsal spotting. The shell as a dorsal growth fold and very minor well healed teeth marks from a fish bite. The are indicated by green arrows in the photos. Fine++.
