NoteExceptional specimen with an uncommon and spectacular zigzag body whorl pattern. Some conchologists have recently synonymized S. alatus with S. pugilis and have named these conches as S. pugilis form alatus. Many expert conchologists still consider this as a separate species, inconsistent with current WORMS taxonomy. The shell shows excellent morphology with strong knobbing of the shoulder and spire. The aperture displays an impressive burnt orange/tangerine aperture with impressive nacre gloss. The specimen was taken by diver off Yucatán, Mexico at 3-4 meters circa 2000. The shell has mild chipping of the anterior siphonal extremity. The specimen comes with the original operculum. Grade: F+++.
