Item | # 0003614086 |
Family | Cypraeidae |
Name | Umbilia capricornica - GEM , Lorenz 1989 |
Size | 67.3 mm |
Locality | Coral Sea, QLD, Australia |
Note | Solid, inflated and thick nacre-glossed specimen taken near the Capricorn Channel. Modest brown blotch on the base with thick margins and profound tuberculation of both extremities and margins. The anterior extremity has a classic transverse groove and both extremities are modestly rostrated. Attractive spotting on columellar lateral wall with perfect aperture teeth with no visible silt inclusions. The shell has perfect extremities with tubercle formation crossing over siphon tips. This characteristic makes the posterior extremity appears to have a self-repaired area, which in fact, it does not. Trawled at 100-120 meters between Swain and Saumarez Reefs, Queensland, Coral Sea, Australia in the late 90s. Grade: GEM. |
