Note

Attractive specimen from the west coast of Australia. A high impact specimen by color quality/intensity/contrast and form alone. Featuring a strong black/brown dorsal pattern, highlighted by a deep lustrous nacre and a sublime blue halo. The shell showing a moderate weight/size ratio (26.6 grams), sharp contoured extremities, thick margins and sparse unique spotting on both lateral walls. The specimen demonstrates a gleaming black/brown base color accentuated by well-developed aperture teeth. An exceptional example of this rare subspecies. The praeclara was taken from a sponge nested on sand/rock substrate by a ROV at 80-85 meters off Zuytdorp Cliffs, Western Australia in 2022. The shell shows one palpable, ultra-light and shallow crease on the labral dorsum above the halo buried in the pattern, hard to see visually. Grade: GEM minus.
