NoteI consider baconi one of the most difficult West Australian volutes to obtain. This crabbed specimen was ROV collected in September 2024 from 195 metres of water west of Leeman in Western Australia. it is a solid adult shell with the brilliant baconi colour and patterns. I am only aware of a couple live specimen being collected. One was a juvenile we collected at Margaret River twelve years ago and we recently collected another west of Leeman. This specimen is listed on our website. As can be seen in the photos it has a rough lip and dead collected. Without this issue the specimen would be priced north of AUD $6,000. Even so it is a nice representative specimen of an extremely rare and striking volute.
