Item | # 0003618258 | Family | Pectinidae | Name | Argopecten purpuratus - Nice, selected , (Lamarck, 1819) |
Size | 99 mm |
Locality | Caldera, northern Chile |
Note | One nice and large specimen of the only pectinid species found in northern Chile: Argopecten purpuratus. This specimen was collected alive by a diver at 8-10 m depth. Argopecten purpuratus have purple, pink, brown, orange or white coloration, with mixed patterns too. This specimen is in excellent condition for the species, having minimal damage. One of the valves has some minimal cirripedian shell remains, which can be cleaned further. The specimen was cleaned lightly with only soft brushes and water so it displays the very nice feathery sculpture of the ribs. The valves can be oiled to reveal the nice colors of the surface, but they are presented in its natural condition, with no oil or other enhancements. An interesting pectinid for your collection at a very low initial price. |
