Family | Pectinidae |
Name | Argopecten purpuratus - Very large, Nice , (Lamarck, 1819) |
Size | 113 mm |
Locality | Caldera, northern Chile |
Note | One very nice and very large specimen of the only pectinid species found in northern Chile: Argopecten purpuratus. This specimen was collected alive by a diver at 8-10 m depth. Argopecten purpuratus have purple, pink, brown, orange or white coloration, with mixed patterns too. This specimen is in excellent condition for the species, having minimal damage. The specimen was cleaned lightly with only soft brushes and water so it displays the very nice feathery sculpture of the ribs which is lost when old or in cleaned specimens. The valves can be oiled to reveal the nice colors of the surface, but they are here presented in its natural condition, with no oil or other enhancements. An excellent specimen of an endemic southeastern Pacific pectinid for your collection at a very low initial price. |
