Item | # 0003623885 | Family | ECHINOIDEA | Name | Arbacia nigra - Very Nice, Selected , (Molina, 1788) |
Size | 46.7 mm |
Locality | Caldera, northern Chile |
Note | One very nice, selected, and colorful specimen of Arbacia nigra (formerly known as Tetrapygus niger), an endemic urchin of Chile and PerĂº. This is only the test (skeleton), without spines, from a specimen washed ashore alive at a beach in northern Chile. These tests are the skeletal structure of the sea urchins which in living specimens contain their soft parts and support their spines. They are very colorful, having tests with pink, purple and bluish parts, sometimes having a single color or different combinations of colors. Note that these specimens were cleaned only with soft brushes, although in several cleaning phases, so they may need some further detailed cleaning to reveal in some cases their deep purple colour. These are in the best condition for the species, having no damages as can be seen in the photographs. These specimens are a nice natural history item, a colorful and endemic urchin test perfect for your Natural History Cabinet or Wunderkammer. A very low initial price for an interesting endemic sea urchin. |
