Item | # 0003637522 | Family | Pectinidae | Name | Argopecten purpuratus - Very Large, Very nice! , (Lamarck, 1819) |
Size | 124 x110.5 mm |
Locality | Caldera, northern Chile |
Note | One very nice and very large 124(W) x (110.5(H) specimen of the only pectinid species found in northern Chile: Argopecten purpuratus. This specimen was collected alive by a diver at about 20 m depth. Argopecten purpuratus have purple, pink, brown, orange or white coloration, with mixed patterns too. This specimen is in excellent condition for the species and for the size, having no damage at all but some remainings of cirripedian on one shell and one small scar in one auricle. The specimen was cleaned lightly with only soft brushes and water so it displays the very nice feathery sculpture of the ribs, but can be cleaned to perfection with some care. The valves can be oiled to reveal the nice colors of the surface, but they are presented in its natural condition, with no oil or other enhancements. An interesting pectinid for your collection at a very low initial price for such a large size. |
