Name | Argopecten purpuratus - Very Large! , (Lamarck, 1819) |
Size | 125 x 110.3 mm |
Locality | Caldera, northern Chile |
Note | One nice and very large specimen 125(width) x 110.3 (Height) of the only pectinid species found in northern Chile: Argopecten purpuratus. This specimen was collected alive by a diver at about 20 m depth. Argopecten purpuratus have purple, pink, brown, orange or white coloration, with mixed patterns too. This specimen is very good condition for the a specimen of this size, having some defects at the border of the valves, as can be seen in the images. The specimen was cleaned lightly with only soft brushes and water so it displays the very nice feathery sculpture of the ribs. The valves can be oiled to reveal the nice colors of the surface, but they are presented in its natural condition, with no oil or other enhancements. An interesting pectinid for your collection at a very low initial price. |
